Ottawa Judo Club Invitational Tournament - May 3, 2008

On Saturday, May 3, judokas from the RA Centre Judo Club competed at the Ottawa Judo Club Invitational Judo Tournament.

Fifty-one (51) judokas aged 5 to 11 from the Lycée Claudel Judo Club (LC), the RA Judo Club (RA) and the Ottawa Judo Club (OJC) were grouped into divisions by weight and belt colour. All the divisions were run in a round robin format, with each competitor having a match against every other competitor.

The divisions were well selected, and there were many close matches. All the competitors took the opportunity to use their judo in a dynamic setting. Most of all, everyone had a great experience.

Thank you to the OJC for hosting such a terrific event!

All seventeen (17) RA judokas who competed won medals.Two of them won special awards: Olivia Cheng-Boivin for “Best Sportsmanship” and Zacharie Cheng-Boivin for “Best Technique”.

Coupe Claude Berthelette - April 19-20, 2008

One of the RA Judo Club's junior judoka was amongst the 764 competitors at the Coupe Claude Berthelette, the biggest judo tournament in Canada which was held this past weekend (April 19 and 20) in Saint Hubert, Québec.

Zacharie Cheng-Boivin, age 8, is an orange belt and loves to compete in judo tournaments, near and far. On Saturday, April 19, he competed in the Benjamin (8 to 10 year olds) under 25kg division. Zacharie won each of his matches with a decisive "Ippon", placed first in the division and was awarded a trophy, the Claude Berthelette Cup.

Zacharie was the only RA judoka to compete at the Coupe Berthelette this year, but he hopes to bring along many of his fellow judoka next year.
